Lean Process at Florida Hospital AltamonteOn June 1, 2004, Florida Hospital Altamonte was the first hospital in Central Florida to introduce the "Lean" methodology to the Emergency Department. The Lean methodology promotes a culture of continuous improvement to eliminate waste, reduce process time and costs, effectively utilize employees, and work toward best practices through standardization. Florida Hospital analyzed the "patient perspective" when coming into an emergency department. Lean analyzed how to shorten the time it takes to get the doctor in to see the patient. The goal for this new process is to shorten the time a patient spends in the emergency department and increase patient satisfaction while achieving service excellence. Emergency Track II
Access to treatment is important. For minor conditions, Florida Hospital Altamonte's Emergency Track II is just the ticket. Emergency Track II was created to reduce wait times for patients with minor ailments like bites, colds and congestion, coughs, earaches, fevers, minor burns, simple lacerations, simple rashes, sore throats or sprains. Emergency Track II is supported by the same ancillary services, such as Radiology and Laboratory, that the hospital Emergency Department offers, and is staffed by Emergency Department personnel. The department is open seven days a week from 12-10 pm.
