Emergency Department

Florida Hospital Altamonte ERAccording to a nationwide survey, the average visit to an emergency room in the US last year was over four hours.* To the staff at Florida Hospital Altamonte, that's far too long for our comfort-and certainly for yours. Increased time spent in the emergency room can result in delays in diagnosis and treatment. That doesn't fit your needs, or our standards for quality medical care.

The idea of delays in an emergency room was a growing concern.

So we set out to create a new kind of emergency department, one that offers you a faster and more comfortable experience that results in (a) the highest quality medical care, and (b) greater satisfaction with your emergency service.

What does this innovation mean for you? Here's what we offer:

  • A new, calming environment with private rooms
  • Eleven new intensive care rooms
  • A 60-minute promise ensuring you'll be seen as quickly as possible
  • New processes in place, including LEAN and Emergency Track II to reduce wait times
  • Advanced emergency procedures for heart attack and stroke victims

Our new healing environment offers private rooms, comfort and life-saving technology.

When the unexpected occurs, privacy and quiet create a healthier, more calming experience. Our new rooms have plenty of space for others there to offer support, and private bathrooms. You'll even find flat screen televisions so you'll feel more at home.

If your emergency includes a critical need, Florida Hospital Altamonte offers 11 new intensive care rooms equipped with the latest technological features.

You have our "60-minute promise" that long waits are over.

Our new Emergency Department redesign includes not only more rooms, but more physicians- for faster service than ever before. At Florida Hospital Altamonte, you'll experience advanced clinical care with our promise to see you in 60 minutes or less.

Here's an important result: our advanced emergency treatment techniques are improving the clinical outcomes of our patients. As a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center and designated Brain Attack Center, Florida Hospital Altamonte has the technology and expertise to stop a heart attack-and reverse the effects of a stroke-in just minutes!

Florida Hospital Altamonte brings the LEAN process to medical care.

We're the first hospital in Central Florida to introduce LEAN thinking to the Emergency Department. LEAN is the name given to a business process that eliminates waste, cuts costs, and puts employees' time to best use.

Florida Hospital Altamonte analyzed the emergency room experience from the patient's point of view; the LEAN concept helped us see how we could shorten the time it takes for a patient to see the doctor. The result? We've shortened the time a patient spends in the emergency department, increased patient satisfaction, and achieved the excellence of care our staff demands.

Got a minor ailment? Get on the right track: Emergency Track II

Let's face it; serious emergencies take precedence in the Emergency Room. That's why we're here. But should patients who may have only a minor condition wait endlessly to see a medical professional?

At Florida Hospital Altamonte, we've got a solution for you: Emergency Track II. It's just the ticket to shorter wait times for patients with minor ailments like bites, colds and congestion, coughs, earaches, fevers, minor burns, simple cuts or rashes, sore throats or sprains. If you need them, you'll still have access to services like Radiology and Laboratory, and to knowledgeable emergency medical personnel. The department is open seven days a week from noon until 10:00 p.m.
